Four Reasons Why Hashtagging Your Wedding is a Must!

It’s been interesting to see the rise of hashtags, especially with the recent spike in popularity of Instagram. Traditionally, sharing wedding photos has been limited to Kodak cameras your grandmother used to buy. Now with the age of social media, everyone from your Mom to Uncle Eddy are using these platforms. According to The Knot, in 2014, 55% of brides used a hashtag to help their guests share wedding day events through their own accounts on Instagram and Facebook. That’s up since 2009, when only about 9% of brides were using hashtags on social media. Brides and Grooms are now starting to do this to engage with their guests to capture and share candid and funny moments from their special day. Below are four benefits you may want to consider if you’re on the fence about using a unique hashtag for your wedding:

  1. Engages your guests.  Having a hashtag at your wedding definitely encourages your guests to take photos. From your guests arriving at the venue, to their laughs at the table. Anything is fair game. hashtag
  2. Moments the Pros miss. Guests with iPhones can’t replace your wedding photographer (obviously), however, the Pros can’t be in every location at the same time, where something memorable may happen behind the scenes. Your guests can give you their unique perspective of the wedding day that the photographer and videographer simply couldn’t capture.
  3. Real-time social engagement of your wedding day. Hashtags are a great way for your guests to post photos to a social forum where everyone can see the fun and excitement from the wedding day. It’s the perfect solution to make your guests feel like they were apart of the big day, especially for guests or family members who were unable to attend the wedding.
  4. Its fun! Let’s be real, it is fun to scroll through your hashtagged photos of your wedding, after everything is all said and done. Hashtags are a great way to relive your special day through the eyes of your family and friends.
